Ben Sira 45,15-17. A provocative proposal Short Note

Abstract

An extensive passage devoted to Aaron and Phinehas (Si 45,6-25) is crucial to Ben Sira’s theological view of the history of God’s people as well as to the position of the High Priesthood1. This contribution presents an analysis of just a small part of it (45,15-17), since the Hebrew text poses some problems as to the question who must be considered the subject(s) of these lines. Before discussing this item, however, an overall view of the structure of Si 45,6-22 is desirable.
